Panna Montata: When Whipped-Cream Design Meets a Radar Brain
The story of this light began with a humorous moment in the workshop. When the first prototype finished 3D printing, its distinct elongated, ridged shape immediately reminded me of the iconic plastic cap on a whipped cream spray can. This sparked the Italian name Panna Montata (meaning whipped cream). Don't be fooled by its playful appearance, though—inside this body lies a sophisticated technological system engineered to withstand outdoor elements and bring dynamic light to gardens or interiors.
Panna Montata functions as an independent interactive organism. Thanks to its material structure, it perfectly diffuses light from the internal source into smooth color surfaces. Its character stands out best when contrasted with nature—whether nestled in summer grass or glowing like a pulsating beacon in a snow-covered winter garden.
Thermal Management, Animations, and Microwave Radar
From the outset, the fixture's construction was designed with component longevity and high luminosity in mind.
Aluminum Cooling Core: At the heart of the lamp is a solid aluminum prism serving as a robust passive heatsink. Four smart addressable RGB LED strips are mounted to it, forming a continuous light cylinder. This setup ensures that the LEDs do not overheat, even during prolonged full-power operation.
Radar Interaction: Hidden within the body is a radar (microwave) sensor. Unlike classic motion sensors, radar can scan the environment through the lamp's walls. The sensor constantly monitors the presence and frequency of nearby movement, dynamically modifying the active effects based on this data—the light can accelerate its tempo, shift color schemes, or become "restless" as you draw closer.
Connectivity and Control: The lamp can be easily controlled through an intuitive web application.
Universal Placement: Panna Montata can serve as a standalone garden lamp or as a design statement in an interior.
