Concreta: Brutalist Mass Meets a Luminous Neural Network
The Concreta light object explores the tension between heavy, tangible mass and the ethereal dynamics of light. A solid base cast in raw concrete using a custom 3D-printed mold firmly anchors the entire structure in space. The concrete surface intentionally reveals the subtle imprint of the mold's 3D-printed layer lines, along with natural micro-pores and casting imperfections—elements that deliberately emphasize the material's authenticity, turning each piece into a unique original.
Emerging from the concrete core is an untamed, hand-shaped tangle of optical fibers. The resulting visual effect evokes synaptic networks, sea corals, or organic structures suddenly brought to life. The fixture functions as a living, reactive interior element. Utilizing advanced wireless connectivity, it is engineered to receive impulses from mobile sensors and external digital data streams, continuously shifting its light intensity, tempo, and color architecture in seamless response to real-world activity.
Raw Materiality and Smart Interface
The technical craftsmanship of Concreta merges digital fabrication with authentic concrete casting.
Concrete Base from 3D-Printed Mold: The base is cast into a dedicated 3D-printed mold. The resulting concrete block proudly exhibits the subtle texture of 3D printing layers alongside organic casting imperfections, granting the object true authenticity and a raw industrial aesthetic.
Organic PMMA Fiber Tangle: A bundle of flexible optical fibers extending directly from the core. Engineered to radiate light along their curves as well as at terminal focal points, creating a volumetric light cloud.
Digital Brain & Wireless Connectivity: Driven by a powerful ESP32 microcontroller with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (BLE) support. This setup enables fluid data transmission, proximity-based user response, and integration with real-time web data sources.
Mobile App Integration: Built for expanded control, custom animations, and interactive modes via a dedicated mobile application currently in development.
Universal Power: Powered via a modern USB-C connection.
